repetitions of repetitions

“But better die than live mechanically a life that is a repetition of repetitions.” DH Lawrence, Women in Love

Repetitions of Repetitions (2013)

Materials: Digital image on aluminium

This work was created in response to the prevalence of digital photography and online digital archives. The series mourns the loss of materiality of the physical personal archive of printed photograph by fetishising the tangibility of the photograph itself. The work was made to seduce, arousing a haptic response in the viewer to reach out and feel what they are seeing. The image object however is out of reach. It has been distanced from the viewer in space and time via the photographic process. The tension between image and object is palpable, eliminating the ease of pure visual consumption.
